A realistic approach to lifestyle family photography.
Photojournalistic Lifestyle and Family Photography
I love when clients give me free reign over a session and they love the moments, not the pose. They let go of the expectation that small children can sit still for even a second, embracing the beauty of reality. Sometimes I think about all together giving up family photography. It’s hard to set the clear expectations and help families understand that it’s really the personality and quirks of this age that are most important for these photos.
I am a lifestyle photographer so my approach is to capture 3-4 posed/family photos but the true intent is to celebrate their lives. The true memories that will bring smiles and laughter in the years to come. The posed “everyone is smiling perfectly” is near impossible for small kids. Even if you do get it, it’s rare the smiles are genuine because when does that honestly happen! Â I am pretty good with kids since I have one of my own and understand what to do in order to bring out those smiles but it doesn’t always work! It’s simply amazing to be present, together, and looking cute as a family. Tickling, laughing, spinning, talking about things you love; those are precious for a lifetime.
Nikki was the perfect client because that is exactly what she wanted and because of that, this session was perfect! The kids brought personal interests as props and enjoyed the Desert Botanical Garden and simply being with their parents. We had a fun hour and captured their personalities and relationships. I simply love it. Enjoy!
