Many photographer only offer full day weddings.

Did you know much of the same time is spent editing, culling, contract, invoicing, communicating, timeline planning, and traveling whether it’s a 3 hour ceremony/portrait coverage or a full 8 hour day? Of course working all day gives you more images to cull and edit but the rest is all still there.

Now if they a photographer takes a short weddings the whole day is booked regardless of how long they are booked… So why would they take a 1-2k on a Saturday (when they still spend hours on the above things) when they will most likely book a full day for 4k?

Of course higher paying events and more work is better for any hard working person!

In the past I have limited my half day coverage option, like many other photographers, because I simply can’t afford to take small weddings when I will most likely book a whole day.

However, things are going change for me this year.

This past year I’ve been working VERY hard at marketing and talking about my creative content and subscription based memberships (Monthly memberships for companies and small business that really want to show up for their audience in a new way.)

I am also gearing up to officially introduce my LAUNCH educational courses (an offshoot called Fully Alive Finding Joy). These courses are designed to help anyone that wants to start life as an entrepreneur or even go back to things they missed and really want to understand about the ins and outs of owning a business.

Needless to say, since I have been focused on this new part of my business and vision, wedding marketing has gone to the wayside temporarily. I haven’t been marketing myself for high end full day services. So this year I took a few 6hour and under weddings because I had my eyes set on another side of my business… and guess what?

I LOVE THEM. I love small intimate weddings,

Even if I make half the income. Because in the end, it’s joy, not money that makes the world go round.

I am incredibly excited to announce I am going to accommodate a lot more intimate weddings over the next year along with my full day options.

Why?

  • They are sweet and short.
  • They usually have less than 50 guests and everyone is friendly.
  • The client is thrilled you accommodated them because not many photographers will.
  • Everything is chill.
  • Everything is calm.
  • They are invested in me and often order an album (which provides me with more creativity and income)
  • And I don’t have to avoid dead face at the endless reception and I don’t feel like the walking dead the next day!

This reception bit makes me sound like a cynic. Dead face and walking dead jokes aside…I’m being honest here. I really don’t enjoy reception photography. I love the main events such as intros, first dance, toasts, and even the occasional entertaining cake cutting. However, endless images of the same guests getting drunk and dancing really gets me down. It’s like carrying a load of bricks at the end of a hard day. I’m exhausted, hungry and sore all over by this point. So let me just cover the first hour feed me some warm food and send me home! ha.

I’m 10+ years into my career as a photographer. I still ADORE weddings but each year I grow and change too and discover more of what I love.

This changes what kind of weddings I’m interested in and the direction I’m taking to market myself to those potential clients.

So this year, I am fully embracing the small intimate weddings. Bring them on!

Showing up for the right before the show starts, grabbing that first look when the couple first sees each other, taking part in the ceremony that means so much and often gets great emotional shots, and then simply capturing guests and the couple in all their joy with lifestyle storytelling details and portraits. Then I go home! I couldn’t ask for a better a life!

Enjoy Michelle and Joes’ intimate wedding at the Desert Botanical Garden and see what I can capture in just a few short hours!
