5 Questions To Ask A Florist A Behind The Scenes Royal Palms Shoot

EEEEk. I’m over the moon with todays blog feature! Say hello to the beautiful fun creative and amazing Jeanne Birmingham of White Poppy Floral. She is a top florist here in the valley with 20 years of experience in her field. She is such a sweet genuine wonderfully kind souls that I am proud to call friend.

“Things to know about me- I love pugs, I love chocolate, been married for 23 years to the love of my life, I have a wonderful 16 year old boy, I love to travel and cook, I’m a master gardener and love to garden when I’m not doing flowers.”

Jeanne

Jeanne was even one of the first wedding vendors I met here in Arizona when I move here 6 years ago.

Here is that story: Jeanne fell in love with my photography when we saw my booth at the Arizona Wedding Show and asked if I would be interested in doing a styled shoot. I was all in! So I planned, organized, and styled an entire “garden party” bridal shoot at the Desert Botanical Gardens. I even carried my kitchen table to the garden! haha.

It was such a gorgeous shoot that I had the audacity to call local publications and ask if they would print it. And the amazing Fran of Phoenix Bride & Groom said yes and entered the glorious moment that I was published my largest spread-she gave us a 4 page spread!!! Thus began an amazing relationship with Phoenix Bride & Groom and the kind and beautiful publisher Fran that eventually led to a cover shoot and publications in every issue until they closed their doors. If you want to see that first shoot with Jeanne. I would have never met this group if it’s wasn’t for Jeanne approaching me and asking to do a styled shoot. https://blog.fullyalivephotography.com/2015/07/desert-botanical-garden-editorial-photographer-bohemian-stylized-bridal-shoot/

Okay so back to todays post. lol.

This shoot is BEYOND perfect, set at the luscious Royal Palm Resort & Spa in the Camelback Vista.

This is a little different spin on the typical stylized shoot. Usually styled shoots are a mock wedding. But we thought it would be more awesome to show a florist in her element at a small intimate venue. More of a behind the scenes set up. We went for a boho anthropology style which I think I captured PERFECTLY! I mean we nailed it friends.

This idea gives clients a peek at what a florist life looks like behind the scenes. Setting up in a small space, making the arrangements and so forth. So we set up and styled this idea at none other than our favorite venue The Royal Palms Resort and Spa. We wanted it to be very simple and show lots of details. We added in lots of tools of the trade and let Jeanne just do her thing.

Royal Palms is my favorite place because its SO beautiful. Reminds me of Spain or Italy. It’s small enough that you don’t feel like you’re at a hotel you feel like you’re in someones home. The customer service is top notch and the food is to die for. As a vendor its super easy to get a round the property because its not too big.

Jeanne

So for the blog I thought it would be helpful to ask the top 5 questions that brides should ask when hiring a florist.

Jeanne and I teamed up and she presented the questions she most frequently gets asked and we recommend that you at least ask these questions to be prepared for the biggest things.

1. How much experience do you have?

Hopefully they have at least a couple years under their belt. (I have 20!)

2. Are you there the day of the wedding?

Some florists have their driver drop of flowers, or have other people doing the design work the day-of. It’s important to ask this question so you know the plan.

3. Can I talk to some of your past clients?

Some couples like the personal connection of talking with past clients, other defer to reading reviews. Either way it’s always nice to hear from other peoples experiences.

4. Is it customary to have corsages or bouts for anyone other than the bridal party?

This is truly personal preference. There are a lot of feelings associated with wedding, so couples will want to honor those in different special ways.

5. What happens if you can’t get the exact flowers I want?

Some florists will substitute a floral for another floral if something didn’t come in or they couldn’t get it. It’s important to know if you ok with this. You might want to ask what the substitution would be, or you can just trust your florist and give them designer freedom.

If you have more questions (which you most likely will and should…) please do not hesitate to reach out to Jeanne!

So enjoy these images and get to know your florist!
