The Art And Challenges of Newborn Photography Meet Baby Scarlett
Welcome Little miss Scarlett Rose into the world! I’m so honored to have photographed this couple for their engagement, wedding, maternity and now sweet newborn shoot!
I titled this blog “The Art and Challenges Of Newborn Photography” because it is an ART and usually challenging. Mostly just an art to get them to sleep and stay asleep! And parents you are not alone! Most babies struggle with this. This is EXACTLY why we schedule 2+ hour sessions for newborns.
From the moment I arrived at the cozy studio, it was clear that Scarlett was going to give me a run for my money!
She was asleep when arriving but the moment I got her undressed and ready she was pissed. haha. So I flew by the seat of my pants and the new plan was to start with family shots instead of solo shots. So we ran with that. Of course when mom or dad (or even me) were holding her all was silent and sleepy- but the second I put her down it was all screaming crying perfect storm. haha.
Despite my best efforts for over an hour to create a peaceful atmosphere, she remained angry whenever I sat her down. Each attempt to lull her into slumber seemed to be met with even crying.
Patience was my best friend that day.
I rocked her, shhhhed her, and utilized various soothing techniques, all in hopes of coaxing her into dreamland. As minutes turned into hours, and we started to worry the studio booking was over, THEN we got lucky! Exhaustion won and her eyelids grew heavy even without being held. It was as if the universe granted us 15 minutes of tranquility. Then the studio let us know we could stay a few extra! So we had about 20 minutes for 4 poses! I got them ALL! I captured the most enchanting photographs- isn’t she darling? You would never know she was crying most of the shoot. God bless her patient parents who were totally chill and understanding. Because of their patiences and mine we overcame the challenges and now have these photos!
This experience like many in photography is not just about capturing picture-perfect moments; it is about capturing the essence of a person and that takes time and patience.
It reminds me the importance of embracing imperfection and finding beauty even in the most challenging circumstances. In the end, the difficulties Scarletts photoshoot served as a valuable reminder as I enter a few months of MANY newborn shoots. It reinforced my belief that true artistry lies not only in the flawless images but also in the journey itself and to gird up my loins for the upcoming shoot challenges haha. The moments of struggle make the final triumph all the more rewarding, and the memories created will be cherished for a lifetime.
Enjoy her photos!!!!
