Can we talk a second about how I make Creative Content For Women Empowerment And Cultural Movement?
As creative content photographer that focuses a LOT on women, as well as being a female founder and business owner/entrepreneur this topic is very interesting to me.
I think a lot about it, how it effects me and what I believe about women empowerment and cultural movement in general. As well as how making creative content specifically TO empower women and move our culture forward, this is incredibly relevant.
How do I play a role in this movement and am I empowering women or simply playing into a cute label or even a disempowering movement?
I like to read a lot, listen to podcasts and follow social media, and as a woman entrepreneur I hear a lot of mixed messages about women empowerment and cultural movements. I see #’s all the time such as #girlboss #femalefounder etc. There are so many mixed options on these types of hashtags and even movements in general.
One band camp believes that these hashtags are simply a way for other women to find and support other women. While some believe these labels are sexist, disempowering, and just reenforcing stereotypes. I have heard the argument that since we don’t use #boyboss or #malefounder etc we are simply segregating. Some also argue that these labels are putting men down…
If I get to the root of the issue, my personal option is that the arguments against the labels and tag words are semantics and we should be looking at the heart behind the words.
We love to label in society, it’s a culture norm. It gives us common language to discuss current movements and topics. It’s generally not meant to disempower men and make women better, rather it’s an attempt to help and empower women to be EQUAL. (not to say some people use these labels in the wrong way or they don’t think before they stick a hot tag word on their post) I tend to think it’s simply an effort to talk about the real issue in inequality between the sexes.
Generally speaking I think that if these labels and cultural movements bring you empowerment and encourages those within your reach…then use them!
When I make creative content for women specifically I AM empowering them. I am showing up in an authentic way that says HEY GIRLS, WE ARE POWERFUL.
We are no more or no less powerful than our counterparts, we are to be seen and heard. We will not play into stereotypes and we won’t bow down to a patriarchal system. This is a new generation still voicing our need for equality.
We have come so far as a culture since the baby boomers generation but it’s still not equal according to statistics, so there is still a reason to have a voice and have courage.
So as a women and a creative content maker I use my super powers for good. haha.
I encourage women AND men to show up in an authentic way. I use hashtags to target and encourage women on the same path as me. It’s a tool and a helpful one if used with the right heart.
I mean, hashtags are simply a way to quickly follow likeminded people. Right? I like that I can find other female founders with tag words, SEO, and hashtags. I think in the future as we reach equality culturally between men and women we can drop away with the movement labels. But we are currently still moving against patriotism and sexism, so we can talk about it! Find ways to call other women to action and empower them to rise above society’s norms and find joy and equality.
What do you think? Please do tell!
I would LOVE to hear some feedback on this post. I never ask for it but I would like to hear from both men and women what they think about the currently mood and semantics in labeling women specifically in social media, books, and more.
While we are on the topic of creative content for women empowerment and cultural movements, I want to introduce this rising star of a #femalefounder (lol) Molly Odell of Nurse Love Nourish.
Molly is a leading mind in our culture. She is finding a balance between modern medicine and natural healing. She is in the process of launching her blog that will explore Reiki, meditation and self care, and will soon be offering in person natural healing sessions as well. Molly will discuss topics on each of her branding points of Nurse. Love. And Nourish. Everything from modern medicine, to natural remedies, clean and green living, physical health, food, mental health, and so much more.
Molly is becoming a leading expert with loads of experience as a PICU nurse for Phoenix Chilcrens Hospital and now working towards her level 3 Reiki training as she dips her toes into the energy healing world. She is currently open for business and I’m so proud to be a part of her journey, not only as her creative content photographer, but also as her small business trainer and mentor. Molly took my LAUNCH class this spring and has truly “launched” herself into the entrepreneurial journey. I couldn’t be more proud to call her friend and partner!
Molly also sent over a review about working with me! She’s the best!
“Working with Tracy has been such a joy. She is knowledgeable and fiercely feminine in her empathy and her drive. Taking the LAUNCH class really helped me to get GOING! She has helped me get my website started and has been so encouraging as I embark into this new world of entrepreneurial work. LAUNCH gave me the nuts and bolts of starting my own business and blog. It helped me understand what I needed to get started…which wasn’t as much as I was building it up to be in my mind. Thank you for empowering me to start and get myself out there!â€
