After nearly 20 years as a photographer, I can confidently say that the 6-month milestone is one of the sweetest stages to capture. If you’ve been on the fence about scheduling a session for your little one, consider this your sign—six months is pure magic!

Smiles, Giggles, and Personality

By six months, babies are delightfully expressive. Big gummy smiles, squeals of laughter, and those curious eyes full of wonder all come through beautifully in photos. Peek-a-boo, silly sounds, or a favorite toy usually guarantee heart-melting reactions.

Sitting Up and Showing Off

Around this age, many babies can sit up with little or no support AND they might not crawl away yet- giving us a variety of poses to work with. This milestone allows us to capture them sitting proudly like the little milestone it is!

Let’s be honest—the chunky thighs, soft cheeks, and tiny fingers are at their peak around this time. These details won’t last forever, which is why this is the perfect moment to document them. I remember when my son went from chunky baby to moving toddler and it goes so fast!

Another bonus: most six-month-olds are still comfortable with new faces. They’re curious and open, which means fewer tears and more smiles during the session. It’s the perfect window before shyness really kicks in.
