Meet Gabi Ashtanga Practitioner and Diversity and Inclusion Advocate
Okay I am BACCKKK! Trying to stay on top of blogging and featuring all these fabulous humans in my life! And none the less I am back with another introductory shoot to another new client over here at Fully Alive.
Today I’m so excited to introduce you to Gabi!
I reached out and asked them if they would introduce themselves and share a little about what they do and who they serve. They so graciously send me some words to feature them on my blog today!
“Hi friends, My name is Gabriela or Gabi for short! I also identify as non-binary and my pronouns are they/them. And yes, my hair is peach colored!
A little bit of my background: I am a student at Arizona State University studying Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design) at Arizona State University with a minor in Fashion Design and certificate in biomimicry. I am also an ambassador for Omstars, Yoga Democracy, and a few other brands.”
Gabi
Gabi also shared more about their Ashtanga practice and diversity and inclusion advocacy…
“I consider myself a student of the Ashtanga Yoga Method-I have been practicing consistently 6 days a week for 2 years. I found the practice 6 years ago at the age of 17 during a Yoga Teacher Training but it would take a while for me to stay committed to the practice. Now that I am consistent with my yoga practice, I also do handstand and contortion training throughout the week, simply because I have found a lot of joy in moving my body in various ways. In the future, I hope to eventually travel to Mysore, India to study Ashtanga in depth.
Unfortunately, the yoga world on Instagram is often saturated with cookie cutter versions of what popular media considers a yogi to be. As a non-binary person of color (Mexican-Colombian) who does not have the thin “ideal†body and as a person who does not have perfect skin with moderate to severe acne – I consider myself to be a huge diversity and inclusion advocate within the yoga community. As a result, I hope to be that yogi people can relate to when looking for inspiration for their yoga practice or to even start a yoga practice.
My personal motto is “I am exactly where I need to be.â€
It’s a beautiful, imperfect existence just to be human and I am a human being just like anyone else. I find it to be a blessing that I can share my practice with the world.
I hope that if you come across my account that you can be as inspired by yoga as I am.”
Gabi
Gabi and I had so much fun on this first shoot together! We ran around downtown Phoenix just going with the flow, chasing sunlight & shadows all the while with my jaw dropping open with their incredible flexibility and beautiful poses! I am truely in awe!
I just LOVE photographing anything outside of the usual. My artistic smile goes WILD! So this shoot was a real treat for me!
A huge thanks to Gabi for taking a risk working with a new photographer and letting me do my thing while they did their thing! I’d say we are a great team!
Enjoy these photos and please follow Gabi’s page on IG and leave some love in the comments
