The Magic of Multi-Generation Family Photoshoots
There is something so magical every year when I book multi-generational photoshoots! And I just LOVE them and I love it even more when the same families book me year after year!
Picture this – a full group of family members, all generations crammed together, we’re talking human Tetris here, folks.
My job? To capture the love, the laughter, and those ever-elusive genuine smiles. Is it easy? No! Is it fun? YES! I LOVE the energy!
Let’s talk about why shooting photos every year are important & let’s talk about making it a family affair!
1. SHOT LIST ADVICE
When comes the “breakdowns,” and no, I’m not talking about meltdowns (though, those happen too). We’re talking about all the different photos we suggest for these shoots.
Shots I think are really important vary based on family dynamics but here are some good shots to consider!
- individual family photos
- grandparents with grandkids (add in playing with the grandkids!)
- parents attempting to keep their little whirlwinds in check to take individual family groups
- The mandatory cousins’ chaos shot (it’s even cuter when the teenage boy needs to hold the baby! lol)
- parents & kids
- all the girls
- all the boys
- and the list goes on!
Each breakdown gives me a chance to highlight the unique connections and endless giggles that define this family. Because my goal is rarely JUST to get the smiling group shots- even though those are important and MUST haves- the in between and silly is really where the joy is at!
2. WHY BOOK YEARLY?
This fabulous family has been with me for several years now, and let me tell you, it’s like reuniting with old friends for me now. We’ve built a relationship and they know what to expect and so do I. It’s like our very own annual family reunion, but with way more posing. lol.
But why book family photos every year, you ask? Well, firstly, it’s like an ongoing documentary of your family’s epic lives. The kids grow, the grandparents age gracefully, and you get to witness it all in a series of snapshots.
It’s also a guaranteed way to capture those hilarious, candid moments you might otherwise forget, like the energy and playfulness that happens in between the “posed” shots. And most importantly, it’s a reminder of the love and unity that keeps your family tight-knit through thick and thin.
3. WHY MULTI-GENERATIONAL?
One big advantage of booking a multi-family photoshoot is the cost-sharing aspect. The families save money because they are booking a longer session but that’s more affordable than booking 2-3 regular shoots for each family separately. But with the breakdowns you are essentially each getting a mini PLUS all the combined family shots!
It’s also so heartwarming to bring the family together and share in something so special. It’s a family reunion while looking your cutest! What gets better than than? haha.
It’s a win-win situation!
