How To Create Fall Themed Brand Photography in Phoenix

We don’t have rows of orange and yellow and red trees, chilly afternoons, or piles of leaves waiting for us in September. And honestly, pretending we’re in Vermont while it’s still over 90 degrees outside usually feels a little ridiculous.
For the quarterly fall issue of XO Sweet Dee, we created a version of fall that actually made sense in Arizona.
Choosing The Location
After producing the previous magazine issues in a professional studio, we wanted this editorial to feel softer, slower, and more connected to the season.
The Farm at South Mountain gave us grass, mature trees, filtered sunlight, and enough open space to build a complete picnic scene. Instead of manufacturing an outdoor setting inside a studio, we chose a location that already supplied the atmosphere.
That allowed us to concentrate on the styling and story.
Creating Fall Without the Clichés
The color palette included warm orange, soft cream, natural green, and touches of white. Danielle incorporated pumpkins, pillows, delicate glassware, layered textiles, dried grasses, and picnic baskets.
We even used a hollowed pumpkin as an ice bucket because, of course, she did.
However, we avoided heavy sweaters, dark brown styling, and the usual attempt to make fall feel overly rustic. The creamy Taylor Swift TTPD themed wardrobe and romantic picnic setup kept the editorial connected to the polished XO Sweet Dee aesthetic.
Why We Used Film Photography
We also photographed this issue on 1/2 film.
Film brought softness and texture to the creamy colors, warm sunlight, and natural setting. It supported the relaxed direction of the shoot without making the photographs feel overly produced.
Choosing film wasn’t about adding a trendy effect afterward. It was part of the creative direction from the beginning.
Planning Seasonal Brand Photography
Seasonal photography does not need to rely on the most obvious symbols of a holiday or season. Instead, begin by asking:
- What colors suggest the season?
- What textures belong in the scene?
- Where would this story realistically happen?
- How can the concept still look like your brand?
The goal is not to disguise Phoenix as somewhere else. It is to create fall brand photography that feels seasonal, believable, and still recognizably yours.
For XO Sweet Dee, that meant film, pumpkins, citrus, warm light, and a romantic picnic under the trees. No fake autumn leaves required.
